Methodology
Every evidence item carries one status label. The label describes what the record can currently support, not a final judgment. Labels can change as sources are reviewed, and changes are recorded as corrections where relevant.
Status labels
- Confirmed
- Supported by reliable and attributable evidence described in the event record.
- Official statement
- A direct statement from an identifiable organization or official. This does not automatically mean every claim is independently verified.
- Corroborated
- Supported by multiple independent sources or pieces of evidence, while stated limitations remain.
- Unconfirmed
- Relevant material or a claim that has not met the standard for confirmation.
- Disputed
- Credible sources or evidence provide materially conflicting accounts.
- Misleading / incorrect context
- Material that is misattributed, outdated, manipulated, or presented with inaccurate context.
- Pending review
- Material that has not yet been sufficiently evaluated.
Material that is unconfirmed, disputed, presented with misleading context, or pending review is shown with a dashed outline and a plain explanation, so it is not mistaken for established material. Where an editor has explained why an item carries its label, that explanation appears under “Why this label?”.
How evidence is ordered
Within a record, evidence is ordered by when it occurred, where that is known. Otherwise it is ordered by when the source published it, and otherwise by when it was added to the record.
Rights policy
Unfiltered Coverage links to original sources by default. Third-party media is embedded only where permitted by the originating platform or rights holder. The platform does not rehost third-party media without permission, licensing, or another valid legal basis.
Each evidence item shows its rights status. Embedded video and images load directly from their original platform and are never autoplayed.
Corrections and contact
If you believe a record contains an error, tell us what should change and which source supports it. Accepted corrections are published on the related event record.
